Hi!

I am Thiemo, born in July 1970, raised in the Hoeksche Waard. My second name is Cyril, which is quite easy to pronounce for people with an English tongue or abroad 😊 Early on, music became my passion: playing with cassette tapes, recording radio shows with the neighbor, buying Jean-Michel Jarre’s first record… 1977.

Let’s FFWD. I graduated from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in ’95 during the Sonology program. A conscious choice and quite challenging to find at the time! My school counselor at RSG in Oud-Beijerland found it: a study that combined music & technology and would explore and practice all aspects of ‘sound.’ By the way, this program at the Royal Conservatory still exists. If you’re looking for it, you can definitely pursue it.

As a Sonologist – a title you don’t hear every day – I work with sound in various ways. I design sounds and create music with them. I record sounds and then edit them on the computer. For some time now, I’ve had Eurorack modules (modular synths), and I essentially build a new synthesizer each time by “patching” signals/voltages (CVs). My knowledge in this area comes directly from my study days, along with a healthy dose of common sense and a sense of sonic adventure.

I delve into many genres of music. In 2005 I launched the Spacemusic podcast – ambient & electronic music – one of the first musical podcasts available on iTunes 4.9 (June 2005). More than 3 million downloads in seasons 1 through 9. Proud of it! The podcast is still running, and I’ve been doing it for over 18 years now. Can you call something like that work? I think so.

And now a new project: Klankspel

My passion for sound and technology has given rise to Klankspel: the awareness that sound (around and within) can trigger us to truly listen, feel, evaluate, and even connect us to who we are and where we come from.

I focus on creative expression, drawing from both electronic and acoustic instruments. I do this because I find it inspiring, and I do this for people like you! I can teach you to really listen and to playfully create beautiful music using various sounds and technologies.
